Why should we recycle?
Plain and simple, we are poisoning the earth with our huge amounts of trash.
- Americans create 250 million tons of trash per year
- The U.S. has 3,091 active landfills and over 10,000 old municipal landfills
- Only 1/10th of all solid grabage in the U.S. gets recycled
- Since 2003, recycling has reduced the amount of trash thrown away in the US by 32%
What can you recycle?
There are numerous things that can be recycled, and you're probably just throwing them away. Recyclables include, but are not limited to: paper, glass, bottles, cans, metals, SOME plastics, tires, and batteries. There are other types of waste that should not be thrown away. Electronic waste, hazardous waste, and toxic waste should all be taken to designated disposal sites.
